pensnest: knitted sweater close up, caption: it's all in the details (Knitting details)

I have a Zauberball that I cut in half because I thought I would make simultaneous socks with it, only to realise after about four inches of socks that it was not sock yarn. Woe.

What I'd like to do with this yarn is knit a more-or-less colour symmetrical shawl or shawlette (or possibly scarf?), and I think it needs to be knitted from one end rather than from the middle. Does anyone have any recs for end-to-end shawls? Or, for something else that would use the long colour changes of a Zauberball to happy effect?

ETA: Many thanks for the suggestions! I think I might go with the Lala shawl suggested by [personal profile] killing_rose, or possibly Nurmilintu by Heidi Alander. At any rate, I've had fun browsing through the projects.:-)

Baktus is an end to end shawl which is really easy. There are a lot of variations on the baktus as well, on Ravelry.

Some people in my yarn shop have knitted hitchhiker and wingspan from zauberball (possibly adjusting for gauge, not sure?) and they were lovely; not sure if that is what you have in mind but thought you should know they looked divine. I think the garter works well with zauberball, because complex stitch patterns just get lost in all the color. But there are some mods on the wingspan pattern that allow for lace and other designs if you search ravelry.

good luck, it sounds fun!

I'm (mostly) enjoying the colorwork the yarn I'm using is doing on this: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lalas-simple-shawl. (Okay, I have no problem with the look, it's the "oh lords, I'm not able to get to the end of the row in the space of a 45 minute episode. YAY" point of "onto ball 2".)

I think Zauberball would work very nicely for both Yarn optimiser and Fiar.

A full version of Biased Transitions (like the one I did) needs at least two skeins but I think a narrower and shorter version would make a great scarf.

(Yes, I like plain stockinette :-)
