rainne: (Knitting)

Someone make a decision for me, eh?

So, when I was in Houston over Christmas, I went by Knitting in the Loop (which was a great, welcoming, warm little store) and picked up this linen.

Each skein is 270 yards, for a total of 810. And I am DYING to make something absolutely beautiful with it. But I can't find a pattern that makes me happy! I think I'd like to make maybe a bag or something with it? I don't know! Maybe a hat. Something. AUGH.

Help me decide what to knit with this gorgeous linen!!! XD

EDIT to add: This is Euroflax #2 Fine/Sport weight.

My LYS has a gorgeous shawl made with Euroflax Linen, and it is soooo soft. I think that is totally doable.

Also, have you considered hand towels? Mason Dixon Knits swear by using linen for hand towels. Apparently they last *forever*, becoming more heirloom-y and softer the longer you have them and the more you wash them...just saying that it's a great house guest gift...or housewarming gift...or whatever. Or just hoard for yourself.

It gets SO SOFT once you wash it. And apparently if it hasn't been would you can wash it before you knit with it if you tie the hank up in a bunch of places so it doesn't come undone while you're washing it, but I haven't tried it so YMMV. (This is according to the person in my LYS, who told me *after* I had it wound.)

Ooooh, also, I almost forgot what you can do with scraps: chokers.

Something with that kind of feel? I'd want next to my skin, in some way. Have you seen some of the yarn-sandal patterns?

There's a very pretty pattern for one here. Though it's not a free one, I think it's prettier than the free one from Lion Brand here.
