Startitis attack

Posted by: untonuggan

So I knit a lovely lace-weight ruffled scarf awhile ago that I am too lazy to link to. I made it 62" because I had a ton of yarn and I wanted to be able to tie it a particular way.

My mother (who also knits) liked it and decided to make one herself, except she couldn't get the hang of the wrap-and-turns and somehow I kept fixing her mistakes and then suddenly I was making it for her. Which was okay because I liked the pattern and could do it in waiting rooms and in front of the TV, etc.

I have now done about 31" of her scarf, which means a total of 93" in this pattern. It is all garter, and with the ruffle that means there is extra length along the edge. My goal is 40" for her scarf, or until I run out of yarn (there's only about 0.15 oz left, but it's lace so who knows how long that could go. I mean there *is* more, but it had an accident with a yarn swift and I am not untangling it.)

The yarn is gorgeous, an alpaca-silk blend that's pretty colors and at least changes colors (unlike mine). My goal was to do about 1" per day for 10 days until It was done. I started working on it tonight, though, and it was as though every iota of my being rebelled against working on it. 93" on US # 3 needles is a *lot* to do on one pattern.

I think this may also be an issue because I bought new yarn (there was a sale). It is called "Ripple" and I am making this scarf. I have cast on and gotten past the first round of lace. The yarn is very slippery, though, so I have to take breaks in my work on that. Which is the perfect opportunity to work on my mom's scarf, right? Theoretically, but really I want to work on socks. Not the socks that I need to stick a lifeline in and rip back, not those (which I've been stuck in the same place on for over a month). No, I want to knit new socks.

I think I have startitis.

comments
