I'm starting to plan my Christmas gifts 2019 knitting campaign (which I should really have started months ago...), and I thought it might be nice to liven things up around here by talking about knitting things as gifts. Is anyone else planning a campaign of holiday knitting, or if you're more organized than me, already working one one? What are you planning/working on?

Likewise, does anyone have any go-to patterns that you would recommend for gifting? For instance, I've knit several versions of TinCanKnits' Beloved bonnet recently to give as baby gifts. I think it hits the perfect balance of fun to knit, quick to knit, and extremely cute once completed and put on a baby!

So yes, let's talk about gifts! What kinds of things or patterns we like to knit as gifts, what gifts we're working on or planning to make, or whatever else we have to say about knitting things for other people!

I always like making fingerless mitts for gifts, because you don't have to be too fussy about the sizing. And people always seem to want a pair! (And if you made them a pair last year, chances are good they've lost them since then. ;-) )

yes! I'm making two pairs at the moment (not disciplined enough to do them one at a time properly) for a close friend's medium-sized kids.

I usually do one large project per holiday season (so the giant Captain America's shield blanket was the only thing I made for holidays last year). This year I'm trying to finish all of my projects in progress, several of which will be presents.

HATS! Interweave's Holiday Gift issue is disappointingly empty of socks (alas) but has plenty of hat and cowl patterns. I like hats because they tend to get used, are unisex, and you don't really have to worry about the dreaded 'are they going to wash it disastrously' as much as with many other projects.

Someone is going to get the blue and grey Wonder Woman shawl (this pattern)I knit, I just haven't decided if it's my mom or my niece.

Don't have a lot of time but my mom came down last month and we picked out yarn for a hat for her for Christmas (she has very sensitive skin and needs to touch things to be sure its okay). It's a lovely variegated so I'm looking for a simple design for it. Might actually just used the colorwork one I've done before but in one color and extend the ribbing since she wants to be able to fold the brim.

It looks like it's going to be the year of the Jolly Wee Elf for me. It's an adorable pattern but quite expensive so I'm planning on making many of them.

That's such a cute pattern! You've got me thinking about who on my list might enjoy a set.

for babies I tended to make the Baby Surprise Jacket, but recently I started making what I call "baby butt pants": https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hosenmatz

This year I have been making a lot of Hatdanas, and I got a great response to the Dimorphous Mitts I made. Zuzu's Petals is a good cowl pattern that is easy and repeatable without making me cross my eyes. And I have easily knitted a classroom's worth of Maine Morning Mitts for friends.

Usually I lean towards hats, mitts, and colorwork mittens as gifts. Bigger than that then it isn't usually for holiday knitting. Too much pressure.

I only have one or two people I consider knitting for. Hubby doesn't generally wear much knitwear (it's not friendly to his line of work) and my son just isn't into it - so I knit for my son's girlfriend, who loves it. :)

If anyone is looking for a very quick holiday gift, I have made a few sets of Pint Sized Pines. They're tiny little knit trees with wine cork bases, and make cute little Christmas decorations.

And a similar pattern I haven't knit yet: Korknisse, tiny little elves!
