Argus Knitalong: Week 4

GUISE OMG I'M LATE

Sorry, peeps. So, what's the story on our collective Argii? I tuckered out on both spinning and knitting this week and am still on Chart B. It's starting to get interesting, though! :) Are folks having fun? Hating it? Anyone new to charts on this project, and if so, are you hating charts, loving charts, indifferent? :)

Please feel free to share your progress, pics, problems, observations, squees, whatevers in the comments!

I've made it on to chart B - got as far as row 15, then dropped a stitch which fell down a couple of rows. So annoying! I've had to rip back four rows or so to pick up all the stitches. Will re-knit them over the week ahead, hopefully!

I've never worked with charts before, nor done a lacework project. It's not put me off ever doing something like this ever again, but I am finding it very unforgiving. I have to pay attention all the time; as soon as I'm not focussing 100% on it, I drop a stitch or mistake where I am and end up having go undo work. Ultimately, this means I'm only working on it at weekends, so it's slow going.

Also, I've never blocked a project before, so that's gonna be interesting!

I have had no time to knit this week. Just started second round of chart A. But I did figure out why I had so many errors and why I had to start over so many time (five! for crying out loud): I took the advice of the designer and put in markers, which was way too many for me to handle. It got my counting all off. Left the markers off when I restarted (for the last time, darn it!) and now I'm flying. Of course, it helps that I've done the same thing five times now, so I know what's going on. :)

I like the chart because at any point you can stop and count the boxes to see how many stitches you're supposed to have on the needle in a particular section. I find that once I've followed the pattern a few times, I only have to look down at the beginning and end of each chart row, so it goes pretty quickly.

I also count and make sure there's still eight stitches between each marker while perling back; I've caught a couple of missed psso stitches that way.

As of right now I am down to the last two charted rows on Chart C, so I should be able to finish tomorrow!
