Icarus

So... does anyone remember the Icarus shawl published in the Summer 2006 Interweave?  I loved the pattern, and although I was pretty new to lace knitting, and daunted by the size of it, I bought some Misti Alpaca and cast it on.

Um. Three or so years ago, that was.

This afternoon I finished it!

Most of the intervening time has been spent with it sitting abandoned, but I've worked at it steadily the last couple of weeks, and had previously decided to make a smaller version, and now it's done!

I have some ends to weave in, and blocking to do and a moth hole to repair, but I'm sooooo glad to have it off needles!

I knit one; and it took me forever, too. I got dumped, mid-shawl, and spent a lot of time watching the Food Network so I started actually working on my shawl. It still took me way too many months to finish the damn thing.

So I completely sympathize with the feeling of having a never-ending shawl.

Huzzah!

Heh. My first shawl is still on the needles.

My second shawl is done...

My first shawl was the swallowtail [pdf link], and the nupps really stumped me, especially given that I was using bluntish bamboo needles. But then I saw that other people had skipped that stitch and their shawls looked fine. So I think I'll switch to pointier needles and modify it accordingly.

Eventually.

I'm using a laceweight angora. DK, or even sports weight would probably be easier.

Congrats! If I ever finish with the shawl I've been working on since 2008 we can have a contest who took longer.

Congratulations on finishing! That's awesome. I'd love to see pics if you want to post some in [community profile] knittingpix.

Congratulations! No shame in leaving a shawl unfinished for a while. ;) Sorry about the moth attack, though.
