Cowling it up

I've decided that my next project should be a cowl, but I'm debating the pattern and yarn. I'm tempted by the Burberry-inspired-cowl-neck-scarf except that the yarn has been discontinued and is unavailable in the colours I'd want, so I either need a substitute yarn or a different pattern.

Does anyone have recommendations of warm, soft, non-itchy, & relatively inexpensive yarn at a gauge of around 4 stitches per inch? I'm wondering about some blends of merino with alpaca or silk, but I'm living in a place with no yarn store and it's hard to judge fibre online.

Failing that, does anybody have a favourite cowl pattern to recommend?

Here's a whole list of yarns that have been used to make that pattern. ;)

Not a problem! All I did was use the Add to Rav queue bookmark thing on her site and it pulled up the title on Ravelry. From there I could use the tabs to find the other options. :D

I hope you find the yarn that's perfect for you. :D

I knit that pattern myself and really enjoyed it. I think my cousin really liked her Christmas present too.

Here was my project page, if you'd like to see it.

I've been knitting a lot with Cascade EcoDuo, which is a blend of Alpaca and Merino. So soft and delicious!

I think the gauge is about 18 sts/4 inch on #8 US needles, which is a little big for your project. Still, maybe if you switched needle sizes it would work?

Sounds like Ravelry might have you covered, though.
