And then a hat happened

A week or so ago, I ended up linking a friend to Pasante's glow-in-the-dark condoms. A conversation ensued, during which it became apparent that what I really wanted was a sex ed hat - something I could whip out of my bag, whack on my head, and dispense advice while wearing.

I discussed this with a handful of other people. Reactions were pretty equally split between "Oh god, you're actually going to wear that in public, aren't you," and "AWESOME! CAN I HAVE ONE?"

The brim/pubes are Sirdar Shaggy Scarf yarn #606, held together with the MC.

The main body of the hat is "Chunky Special by Stylecraft", #1023 Raspberry.

The labia are crocheted RY Bamboo Soft #108, making them very strokable.

The pattern is based very loosely on Woolly Wormhead's Chunkeanie. I've got plenty of each ball of yarn left over for a second hat (and in the case of the labia & brim, for several more than that).

Not shown (because I can't get a good picture) is the glittery pink button I have sewn beneath the clitoral hood. Possible plans for the future include converting it to a PUNK CUNT HAT by giving it a safety-pin hood piercing.

I am particularly pleased by this project because (a) I feel I'm ~subverting cultural expectations~ by having my first ever pink project be this, (b) I went from concept to finished product in less than a week, which says good things for how the depression is doing at the moment, (c) I taught myself crochet specially, and (d) it displays some of the natural variation in bodies that frequently occurs but is rarely talked about. Not to praise myself too highly or anything ;)

Congrats on the quick finish and being able to combine form and function. Lovely choice of colors. I just wish my eyes had a better ability to transfer visual imagery to my brain than they do.

From looking at the written portions of your post, I got a bit of a better idea. I know that may sound bizarre but I'm not that sexually-oriented (beyond that phase, thank goodness), and I actually did need the words to envision what I was looking at. It looks good on all levels, but that you'll be able to use it as a teaching/advice tool is the best thing!

The existence and execution of this hat are an inspiration to me -- the quick turnaround from idea to execution, and the stylized and yet immediately recognizable shapes.
