Look! I made it myself! (now with more pictures!)

I have a few skeins of plain Lion Brand Fisherman's wool for a massive year-long blanket project I'm working on. (The Learn To Knit Afghan Ravelry link) So, I mean, obviously since I have so much of this bare yarn and it's such a long project...I should totally use some of it to learn how to dye yarn! Right?

Right. :D

This one went so well that I'm going to do another one and take some pictures and actually write a tutorial for it. I used a number of different methods from various tutorials I've seen. The result was that when I went to rinse it I go NO bleed. None! On my first try!

I'm very excited. :D I'm not hugely in love with the pink section. I needed to dilute my pink more and spread it more evenly, but I think that it will knit up looking really great. Two Five

This is the picture I took right before I rinsed it, so I could compare it after to see how much had bled off. (None!) And, heh, please ignore the knife covered in peanut butter in the background. The tiny people needed a lunch break between dying and rinsing. Hee.

This is where it is now, hanging out on the porch and drying. I have a much better idea how to spread the dye to get the color more even for next time, but I'm really kind of loving the mottled thing it has going on.

Now it's dry! It looks a lot more tie-dye than I had intended, but I had rather expected that from the pink given how it was going on in the first place. I think I like it. :D Actually. I think I rather love it.

(Yes, that's permanent marker. I have toddlers, I have accepted the reality of my life is refinishing and repainting everything in my house once they're school-aged. :D)

And a couple of twisted-hank glamour shots just for the heck of it :D

So now I need to name it! Any suggestions? :D Anyone else reminded of getting Baskin Robbins Gumball Ice Cream when you were a kid? I think that's what I'm going to call it.

Gumball Ice Cream!

I love the way it came out - so pretty. :) You definitely need to come back and post pics with your finished project. I know I'd love to see it.

Thanks!
