Baptism gift

It's my nephews's baptism in two months and I am going to be his godmother. I knit him a baby blanket for his birth and I am wondering if anyone has any idea on whether there's anything I can knit for this occasion that isn't something he would only wera for a month or two and then grow out of. I am not really coming up with anything.

I suppose the traditional thing for baptisms would be a christening shawl, white and of fine lace. It's one-use, though if baby has careful parents it could become "one use for every baby for generations"...

There are some baby sweater patterns that have turned cuffs and extra length, which make it possible for the child to grow and still wear it. But it depends on the weather, if a sweater would even be appropriate.

Not sure of the appropriate-ness of this, but what about a stuffed animal/thing? Ravelry has quite a few ...

Off topic, but congratulations on getting to be his Godmother. I'm sure you'll be an excellent one!

I'd like to second the notion put forth for a stuffed creature of some sort. A lamb or something would be something appropriate for the occasion.

Honestly, I don't tend to knit clothes for babies that young, because they've outgrown them before I finish the garment. And the baby won't care anyway. I'd say either a soft toy that could potentially become a beloved companion, or maybe even something for the parents - a bible cover, or something like that.
