I'm hunting for good knitting chart software. My drawing talents aren't all that, and I'm trying to create a Fair Isle design for at least a portion of the St. Trinian's school badge. I realize it's very complicated, but I'm mostly looking to do the shield logo with the "T" on it.

Anyway, I can't find any decent software, and I was wondering if anyone here knew of anything they could rec? Obviously, I would prefer not to pay for it, but I would be willing to do so to get the right software.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Knit Pro has a chart generator that might work?

I think the only iffy part is how it will render some of the shades.

A friend of mine does her charts on graph paper.

I've done a bunch of charts using graph paper. Generally I get a print out of the thing I want to chart and I put graph paper over it and fill in the different squares with the colour I see most of (depending on how thick your graph paper is/contrast of your colours, you might want to do this against a window). And then I fudge things around until they look good.

It'll be more accurate (and often look better) if you use more squares - but then that limits where you can put it because it'll either be big or you'll have to use small yarn/sts.
