Knitting with two balls of yarn
Jan. 28th, 2013 06:44 pmI've never knitted anything that required a double thread until I picked up an easy afghan pattern. The pattern itself is no problem, but I'm wondering if there's a way to keep the yarn from twisting. After ever row I have to untwist the balls of yarn which is easy but annoying.
Right now I've got each ball in a separate box, but it doesn't seem to help much. I'm using giant balls of yarn (those super saver types that are 1 pound each that began as skeins), so could the size be the problem? Should I have left them as giant skeins?
I'd appreciate any advice. If this is an unavoidable problem, that's OK. In the scheme of things, it's not all that bad. :)

wow. i knit this one up quick! part of my sister's xmas gift was for me to knit her the hat of her choice. she fell in love with escargot when i showed it to her.
the instructions were very clear and easy to follow, with some short rows done in the brim of the hat. even after swatching and concluding i needed a smaller needle, the hat still came out bigger than i wanted it to, but it turned out to fit her perfectly. i'm going to make another hat in the opposite colors with the left-over yarn - and use an even smaller needle - or maybe i'll buy a 3rd color... hmmmmmm....

first lace project
Aug. 20th, 2010 08:32 pmI have this marvelous beach blanket. Sure, it's good for the usual blanket-y type things: keeping you warm, drying you off, giving you a place to sit seaside without getting sand up in your pink bits. But that's not what makes this beach blanket so wonderful.
What's special about this blanket is its ability to transform my full-sized daybed into a gigantic grid for blocking lace:

Just had to share with people who'd understand my need for a huge blocking grid. My coworkers just gave me blank looks when I tried to explain why this was so very useful.
