Hi knitters! I just wanted to let you all know about a sock club we're starting up on Dreamwidth - dwsockclub. We've just picked a first pattern, and will be probably taking two months or so to work on it before picking the next.

Ooh, great idea. I can't even think about starting another project right now, but it looks like my backlog of projects will probably be clearing up right around the time you move to the next pair of socks. Have joined.

Socks are the SOUL OF MY KNITTING LIFE, I say, so I totally joined up! And will start in March, as soon as I finish my current socks and deal with at least one other WIP on needles.

I read the comments here, though, and now I'm wondering if anyone plans to do a 'how to knit this bit of socks' post? There are a million youtube videos that could be embedded, but you could also make it specific to the current sock project with images, etc.

Or maybe a month where the pattern is a straight-forward one and you call it 'learn to knit socks' month or something...

I've only been doing them since... July, I think! But they're so addictive. Also I love sock yarn.

I don't think anyone's planned that yet! We are all about delegating, though, so if you were interested in posting occasional how-to videos that would be cool. I also think posting questions or tips on patterns as they come up would be fine.

HI FU. Socks are not too hard but you do have to know how to do shaping (increases and decreases).

Oooh. I know some increases and decreases, and feel fairly confident in being able to pick them up. I'm more nervous about working small (medium?) diameter in the round, actually! I'm working on fingerless gloves right now, and it's just a bit of a pain to have to constantly shift the stitches on the circular needles *g*

Two words: Magic Loop. Makes circular knitting dead easy, however few stitches you have on a needle!

Oh, yes, thank you. I love the magic loop technique! It's just that the stitches generally need to be moved along the needle so very often, otherwise the needles quickly get hard to manage.

Though, since I last posted a comment, I've managed to finish one glove, and I found the smaller diameter much harder than the bag I'd first done (which is what I learned magic loop on) -- so I am feeling slightly more confident that I might be able to do a sock without being frustrated.
