I need help finding a pattern for this yarn.

I have two skeins (220 yards) of this yarn [link] in a lovely variegated green color, and unfortunately this yarn has been discontinued. This morning I tried to do a simple ribbed pattern with size 11 needles, and found that it was awkward to knit with, because the thick-and-thin texture of the yarn.

I'd like to make a scarf, since I only have 220 yards of this yarn. Does anyone know any scarf patterns that work well with thick-and-thin yarn?

You can try the multidirectional diagonal scarf or the holding hands, feeding ducks scarf.

when I'm knitting with thick and thin yarn (or like, some of my handspun) i think the point is that the yarn gets to do all the work of making the finished object look pretty. so i would aim for something that's in plain garter or stockinette, but is maybe an interesting shape. bonus: you don't have to worry too much about gauge.

something like a diagonal garter scarf or this one knit the long way.

I agree that a simple stitch will show the texture to its best advantage.

I experimented a bit with a similar thick-and-thin yarn (one pattern just didn't work with the yarn) and made a couple of things which came out well:
Maine Morning Mitts which really shows off the yarn's texture (the pattern's designed for homespun)
Matching ribbed cowl
YO K2T scarf - so cute and soft!

I took a quick stroll through the projects on the yarn page, and here are my favorites.
1, 2, 3, or 4 mixed with another yarn.

If you haven't blocked your sample, I would do that before deciding on a stitch pattern. I've had things go from trash to treasure that way...

If you want to stabilise the thick/thin, you could mix with another yarn of in between thickness. Maybe 2 colour brioche?

Yeah, the star stitch needs a lot of force behind it, so it can be really rough.

You might want to try a moebius scarf in seed stitch, instead. That might compensate for the thick-and-thin.

If you give up on the scarf front, I must recommend making an Urchin hat. I've made several from thick and thin handspun, and it's always a joy.

Storm-cloud shawlette is a simple dropped garter stitch shawl that really shows off an uneven yarn.

Not a scarf at all, but the Urchin hat by Ysolda Teague works really well with thick and thin.

I always like garter with thick and thin yarn. you don't even ahve to change colors and you could make something like this: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/foolproof

another thing I like to do is do 2 rows garter with thick and thin, and 2 rows garter with a consistent thickness yarn (usually the mid point of the thick and thin, like a worsted or a DK) and switch back and forth. that way it looks consistent. Especially if it is a color that blends in well.
