Finished a hat!

So back in.. Sheesh, August or November at best, I decided to make the Snail hat from Scott Pilgrim vs the World for an online friend of mine. After getting the green light on what shade of blue he wanted, I got the materials and started working. Really, this is my 2nd hat done in the round, and my first that actually required DPNs. The first one I did was Knit Picks Easy Peasy hat, which doesn't require DPNs.
So I started working on the snail hat...and working and working. I started keeping a progress diary in mid October, which helped. I had a few issues with laddering and needing to unwork like 3 rounds back to where I could resume the work. (In heindsight, I'm really glad I did that instead of frog and start over entirely).
This evening I actually finished the body work! I can see some areas that need patching (I patched this like mad where I had laddering. It's kinda obvious, but as long as it holds, I don't care) and the top of my version doesn't end in a triangle. I didn't actually count while doing the last round of decreasing and ended up with a lot more stitches than I thought. Instead of unworking it and trying again, I just did a combination of decreasing and fastening off before doing a messed up not-really-a-Kitchner-stitch-at-all-but-I-used-the-tutorial-I-found-as-reference. So the top looks more like a closed drawstring bag, but like I said, as long as it holds (I went through each stitch 2 times to enforce it). As long as my friend doesn't yank too hard on the top when he's moving to fasten it, it should be okay. I still have to do patch work, weave in the ends (Currently stuffed under the hat), attach the button and the crochet the button hole, but I'm marking this as being done. :V
All in all, I'm really proud of how this turned out. It's not bad at all for a first time attempt and now I know what to watch out for if I decide to ever do another one. You can see photos below the cut!
( Photos! )
I'm kinda dreading weaving in most of the ends. @_@
edit: 11:12 pm: So looking at the pattern and my hat, I've realized that the last two steps about attaching the button and crocheting in the button hole have the rows reversed. The button should go on CC15, and the button hole should go on CC5. @_@ Found that out before I attached the button and I felt like sharing. :V
