girlpearl: because Gibbs <3 Abby, even when she hasn't earned it. (fingerkisses)

My nephew, who is, in my wholly objective and professional opinion, the cutest baby ever born on planet Earth, will be turning one very soon. My sister informs me that he would like a hat for his birthday, and my brother-in-law clarifies, "Preferably something with ears."

I've already knit him a variation on the Little Devil hat, designed (at my sister's request) to match the ear shape & color of her dog.

Does anybody know of any other baby hat patterns that have ears? No suggestion too goofy. They live in Chicago, so something nice & warm would be ideal.

I have an overwhelming love for Debbie Bliss' baby patterns. Seriously, I have a baby shower for one of my best girlfriends this month and all my major projects that I've knitted for her are from Debbie Bliss.

I have two of her books:
Simply Baby has a pixie hat. (Hat can be seen if you click "view more images".)
Essential Baby has a reversible hat.

They are both too cute for words. Neither have ears, though.

I had to take the opportunity to share my love of Debbie Bliss. Did I mention how much I love her? ;)

I did her cable baby socks for my first cabling project and fell in love with both cabling and her as it was my first Debbie Bliss pattern as well. I really have to resist buying another one of her books whenever I look at knitting stuff. I have plenty of baby pattern books. I am considering one of her adult pattern books though since I love her so very much.

If you're on Ravelry, there's the official kittyville hat. People have done some really cute variations on that for babies. Or is that the pattern you used?

There also top-down anime character hat which people have had fun modifying. Cisco is very cute, and there's a bunny and a yoda. That's on this search (wait a few secs for it to load) and just looking at the first page; there are three more.

+1 to this.

I've made the Kittyville hat a couple of times and am really happy with the adult version.

There's the Russian Winter hat from SnB Nation.

If you can crochet, I did this project a few years ago for a friend's nephew. Just a simple crocheted helmet pattern, a few semi circles stitched together and attached on the sides, and wah-laaah! instant monkey.

The top-down anime hat was going to be my suggestion; I've made it before and it's totally lovely.

Dang, I could have sworn Spunky did a bobbly troll hat for kids--SOMEONE did, but it must not've been her, which is frustrating because eventually I'd wanted to make a grownup size of that one, too. Point is, it's neutral/normal enough to pass muster, but also super cute.
