So I made my very first sweater for my niece, who is due soon. I am not sure if I am more excited about the baby or the sweater.

So as soon as I finished I was in a knitting mode of MUST KNIT MOAR SWEATERZ even though I didn't really have the yarn for the kind of sweater project I wanted to do and I had plenty of perfectly good sock yarn and sock projects I had intended to work on. But no, I *must* knit more sweaters, and I decided that knitting a hoodie for my 3-year-old nephew would be a good idea (aiming for when he turns four).
I have to finish a scarf before I can start it, because I need the needle I'm using. That's okay, I'm only a few rows away (this is deceptive, as I'm knitting the long way, but it's really only one episode of Sherlock and I'll be done. It's a garter stitch scarf.)
Anyway, I bought the yarn for a kid's sweater, and what happened? I finally started knitting the second sock I've had in my knitting bag for over a month, and now I can't stop thinking about knitting socks.
Is it yarn fumes? What? Can someone tell me?
(Note that I am not complaining, because I would like to finish the second sock and also knit a pair of socks for my mom that I promised her at Christmas.)

Date: 2012-03-09 01:02 am (UTC)I often want to just knit more of whatever I'm knitting. It's a thing. I don't understand it.

Unless it is a cursed piece of knitting, in which case it shall be frogged.

Date: 2012-03-09 01:14 pm (UTC)Yes, I definitely thought it sounded like yarn fumes. At least I've given myself until October for the other sweater...

Date: 2012-03-09 09:58 pm (UTC)How else to explain that even though I finally finished the baby blanket I was complaining about and swearing (at the time) that I'd never do anything that big again and it was socks for me all the way, that now I'm thinking about that pound of leftover yarn and how I might make a somewhat smaller blanket out of it...

Date: 2012-03-10 07:26 am (UTC)I used to knit all sorts of things, baby clothes, scarves, afghans, slippers, but once I started on socks, I couldn't stop.
It doesn't help that my ravelry swap partners always send me new sock yarn...and every time I go to my LYS, I come home with at least one ball of sock yarn.
I think there should be a 12 step program for Sock Addicts.

What are some of your favorite patterns, if you don't mind my asking? I've mainly been adapting the yarn harlot's basic sock pattern from Knitting Rules!.

It's so pretty and really isn't difficult after you've made the first one. I've probably made a dozen of these for myself and others.
I just use a basic rib pattern for socks I make for men. My husband likes how its snug around his ankles and foot.
