Color Affection/Infection/Affliction - just in time for a cold snap

I just finished knitting Color Affection, which I know most people do in a lot of different colors...however, I picked lots of shades of blue with some variegations of purple and green mixed in. Why? (1) Stashbusting. (2) Zomg blue is my favorite color and it will match a lot of my wardrobe. (I did end up buying the third color, because I couldn't find a set of three that matched in my stash.)

Obligatory blocking photo that shows some of the striping pattern. Does not show entire shawl, because it's fricking huge.
Note that I was unable to get gauge, despite swatching twice. Apparently when I knit large, heavier objects it really messes with my gauge, and I don't know how to compensate for this.

It's a fun knit, I got to practice carrying yarn and learned the difference between "make 1 right" and "make 1 left". (Side note: if you do make this, it does take a concerted effort to have your make 1's be loose while you're carrying the yarn. This is worth the effort.)

Re: Rav-swapping -- I belong to a group that exists mostly to chat and swap yarn. I have spent a lot on postage but it's kind of fun.

re: another CA -- I have several color combos in mind, but after seeing yours, I want one closer to that in depth/height. One of my other disatisfactions with mine was that it didn't reach far enough down my back to, you know, keep me warm. ;) So possibly a different (thicker) yarn ...

Or maybe I will just do a Stripe Study. *g*

Funnily enough, the max height for mine is about 14" and max length is about 84". But if I drape it the right way (and maybe invest in a shawl pin to keep it there more regularly) then it does keep me waaaay toasty. Now I'm going to knit arm warmers to keep the rest of my arms warm, which means I can compensate for not knitting a sweater atm. (My size, it is changing, making sweater sizing hard to predict.)

Mine is sock yarn, one of them is Plymouth yarn happy feet. I did end up using #7 needles rather than #6, because my lying swatch said that I would get closer to gauge with that. Um, no. Also, apparently on the needles the edging was 2" but when I blocked it it was closer to 1.25"? So, I dunno, it's a shawl it doesn't really matter because I am toasty and satisfied with how it looks.

Also, oooo, Stripe Study...*g*

If you wanted to do it with a thicker yarn you totally could, it would just make guesstimating yardage difficult I guess? And also which needle to use, but I suppose you could just pick one that produced a fabric you like.
