[personal profile] grimmhill posting in [community profile] knitting
I've been following the community for awhile, but finally joined so I can post.

I'm looking for yarn recommendations. I want to make a modified version of the Prairie Treasures sweater from the old Nancy Vales book, modified to use either Aran (4 sts/inch) or Bulky (3.5 sts/inches) yarn. I am looking for recommendations for plied wool or primarily wool yarns in these weights which would have a wide-enough color range to manage the main color plus eight pattern colors required, and drapes well. As the sweater is large, and I am as well, inexpensive is also a requirement. I'm on the East Coast of the US, so something available by order in most good yarn shops there, or which is available through an internet supplier who ships to the US is called for.

I made the vest version of this sweater years ago for my sister, and it's the kind of sweater you cuddle into on a snowy winter day at home.

Not quite Aran, but KnitPicks Swish Worsted is soft & has a nice drape AND a big color range ...

Seconding the Swish. Helps that it's a super nice yarn and fairly cheap, at that.

I love Bartlettyarns which are spun in Maine.

You can order from here (and you can see their color range): http://halcyonyarn.com/

You can look up Bartlettyarns on there.

I didn't bother checking my gauge, the project didn't need it, but I'm a pretty loose knitter at the best of times, so I doubt it was correct. I just remember that the yarn was delightful to work with.

I've only ever used their sportweight and I can tell you that yes, that was an accurate gauge description.

Ah, good to know about their sportweight! It's nice to have something that's like Brooklyn Tweed's Loft/Shelter yarns but between them in wpi.
