The door to my lounge is mostly glass, and through it I get an interesting, distorted view of white/beige, with highlights of orange and black. For a long time, I've been thinking about knitting something using this colour combination, and last month, I actually got around to it.

It's entrelac, with a newly joined yarn for each segment, and was intended as a stashbuster—it did quite well in using up a bunch of not-quite-whites, particularly when I decided to fringe it. I started my knitting life as a disciple of Kaffe Fassett, so my stash is a huge collection of one-off balls... I should probably have made the dark patch a little bit larger, but I didn't make a plan, just made it up as I went along, and it turned out pretty well.

Now, of course, I don't know what to do with it!

I used this one from Dianepurls: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/triangle-entrelac-shawls I did the 200 cast-ons version.

Starts at the top, and reduces, so you are racing along as you get towards the point! I see she also offers a tip-up version, but I usually have lots of enthusiasm at the start of a project, so it's at the end that I need to be able to see the finish.

I recommend it! Once you get the hang of it, it is remarkably simple, and it looks so clever. This is particularly easy because you don't have end-of-row triangles to do as you would with a straight-sided scarf.

That's absolutely *gorgeous. I don't have the patience for entrelac, it's far too fiddly for me (which is perhaps odd, considering I prefer fiddly lace things to anything else), but having seen this, I may be tempted to attempt it again at some point in the future. <3

I managed an entrelac scarf before I dared tackle anything in lace, but as I said to

lannamichaels above, this triangle is easier than the scarf, because you don't need to bother with the fiddly little triangles at the ends of rows.

Thanks for sharing the pattern too. Entrelac is on my to-learn list for the year, and that's the best looking beginner description I've seen in a pattern. =)

[random rambling about shawls which you can feel free to ignore follows]

Looks great for snuggling up next to the TV to me....or a night on the town! I have found my shawls an indispensable part of my wardrobe, when once I thought that color affection would just be "a fun knit" and then maybe I would only wear "it occasionally." I get a lot of joint pain and find that the extra layer really helps take the edge of the chill off, which in turn helps with the joint pain. Also sometimes I wrap it across my lap like a blanket. I don't know if it's the same with you...I have also seen them make great wall hangings. *g*

I do like making shawls - none of that tiresome shaping and sewing, just a big, swaggery knit where you can have real fun with colours. At the moment (as in the picture) this one is hanging over the back of the smaller sofa in our lounge, but it's actually concealing one that already lives there, which is large diamond shapes in shades of red, orange and brown.

We have a boring but serviceable fleece blanket for snuggling under while watching the telly, but I may have to start using a shawl to enwrap myself. It seems a shame to waste it!
