Has anyone else started the Argus Shawlette yet? I just finished the "set-up" chart. I think I may have to go buy more stitch markers before I start the charts with pattern repeats.

I've made one tiny screwup so far - I did all my single decreases as K2togs before noticing that the left-slanting ones were supposed to be SSKs. But that's only three stitches, so I doubt anyone will ever notice. I'm planning to use a highlighter to mark all the SSKs before I continue.

I'm not sure where you'd get them in the US, but I buy tiny rubber hairbands from Claire's Accessories over here - I can't see how anybody could actually *use* them as hairbands, but they're perfect for stitch markers, and come in various colours. I've got two packs of the 'brights', with yellow, orange, pink and purple ones - about £3 for 100.

I finally got started at about 10PM. It's been a long day. I am sure that when your shawl is all done and blocked, the accidental K2Togs will be invisible!

I'm liking it so far, although I'm only partway through the setup chart so I'm not very far. It seems like it will be a nice thing to knit while half-watching Star Trek: TOS on YouTube, or something. (That seems to be the thing I watch during knitting, go figure.)

I've started it too - although I started it at the end of Feb and have only made it as far as Chart A.

I've made many many screw-ups so far! I've started over about four times, because I couldn't work out how to unpick to get back to the points of my error. Now I'm a bit better at unpicking, but I'm still making mistakes. Just this morning I got halfway through a row and found myself a stitch short of what the pattern thinks I should have. So either I've followed the wrong row on the pattern, or I've dropped a stitch somewhere, or else I've found another way to mess up. It'll have to wait for later to be properly investigated though.

I'm not sure I'm doing the SSKs properly, but I am at least doing them all the same way. So if they're "wong" then they're consistently wrong. (I say "wrong" because as a minimum I'm still knitting the two stitches together and getting the decrease.)

I'm using knotted wool in a contrasting colour for my stitch-markers. Cheap, but it's working so far. And if I need some more, I've a whole ball of wool I can snip up!

I saw the link to the tutorial site, but haven't had a chance to check out the videos yet. I suspect that will become a favourite!

I'm about halfway through the set up chart. I would be further along, but I keep making stupid mistakes (like casting on eleven stitches and not noticing, because apparently I can't count to ten).

I just use bits of contrasting yarn tied in knots for stitch markers, because I am cheap. Sleeper earrings work even better, but nowhere seems to sell them any more.

I haven't even gotten my yarn yet. :( I've got so much on my plate right now it'll be the end of March before I can start. But I'm eagerly reading everyone else's progress (and hopefully will learn from your mistakes). :)

I started yesterday morning on the bus to work, and I'm most of the way through the setup chart now. It's the first time I've done anything with a chart, and it's a lot less scary than I expected it to be! I think it's going to take forever to finish the shawl, though--I'm used to knitting smaller projects with thicker yarn.

The timing was perfect--I finished my previous project Sunday night, end of February, so I was ready to start this first thing in March. :-)
