NaKniMo

I'm not officially participating in NaKniMo (Ravelry link) but I thought I would use the opportunity to get some projects completed and work on some others that I may or may not be able to complete.  Does anyone want to join me?

To be completed:
1) Scarf for my grandmother's birthday.  Needs tassels.
2) Dishcloth that I found this morning that has been bound off.  Just needs ends woven in. Finished Nov 2
3) Add snaps to baby bib.

To work on:
1) Scarf for barter.  Made with silk sari yarn.  Worked on it yesterday and today. 
2) Baby blanket.

Hi, Newbie Knitter Asking Opinions ...

I asked my circle this morning, but thought I'd ask here as well. I want to knit a scarf that's appearing in the upcoming Sherlock Holmes 2 movie (link below). I have the yarn, but I'm kinda paralyzed by what stitch to use.

Here's what I posted. Please note that I'm a newbie knitter, but have an okay hang of the basics.

Okay, flist, I need advice from my more experienced knitters. I've decided to knit the Hotson Scarf of Ultimate Warmitude but I'm paralyzed deciding the stitch.

1)Garter. Pro: easiest and fastest for me, won't lose track and mess up. Con: doesn't look particularly pretty or polished, but maybe that's just me.

2) Stockinette. Pro: pretty and professional looking. Con: Heard it curls and doesn't hang awesomely. Is this really inevitable? :(

3) Ribs. Pro: Very, very pretty and soft, hangs well. Con: Will lose track very easily and the original scarf looks nothing like that to me.

I liked this pattern so I turned it into a scarf (picture pre-blocking, it's still drying).

Now, I want to do one in the round so I can have both sides of the scarf looking the same. But I have two questions:

1. What do you do with the ends of a scarf knit in the round? (I've never done one before). Leave them open? Sew them shut? Do a provisional cast on and graft them like sock toes so they're all neat? (Both a general: "What should I do?" and "What do you do?")

2. When making it round - would I just repeat the pattern, side by side, or would it help to add a stitch either side so it will lie flat? (I was thinking a one or two-stitch-wide stockingette strip to be the "fold", if that makes sense?) Of course, I don't know what I'm doing here - never knitted a scarf in the round, just socks and hats and such - so I could be talking out my ear here.
