izzy: birds flying ([art] only nitwits like to knit)

i have a hankering to make myself a hat. the tools i have available are as follows:

mostly worsted weight yarn (other yarn is sock weight which isn't terribly helpful)
mostly wool
dpns US sizes 3 through 9 (missing a couple in there, can't remember which right now) and one circular size 10 or thereabouts

i am a fan of most types of hats (cloches are an exception). i love silly things like earflaps and pompoms. i'm not big on super detailed colorwork. i've looked at the hats on knitty, and nothing is catching my fancy.

i just wanna whip myself up an easy hat, any suggestions?

i like the super simple monmouth hat and have made several, varying the top knot -- on one it's longer and tied in a knot, on another it's got a pompom attached, on another after the decreasing (and closing the hat) i increased th stitches to make 3 lengths in different colours and put a pompom on each one, then tied them together with a pretty ribbon at the base.

pattern is from http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/hats/monmouth.htm; it calls for bulky but i always use 2 strands of worsted (in coordinating colours).

Things that are super fun: going through the projects on Ravelry and going "Scadian! ... 'Nother Scadian!" :D

That is an awesome hat and my husband thanks you, as he will be getting one for his birthday in a couple weeks, lol.

Hee. We haven't played in years, but the phrase "takes one to know one" comes to mind LOL, and, well, the garb gives away most of them...lol.
