When I started knitting I rather despised scarves, as they take so long. I am now working on one that is taking *forever* because it is in lace weight and I've done the pattern before, but I'm perservering because it is gorgeous. The other one I've started is quite enjoyable, because it goes by so quickly in comparison. I started in on Friday and it's already half the length of the scarf I've been working on for *months*.
First off, here's the scarf that's taking forever and eating my soul but is so gorgeous:

It's in a Malabrigo Alpaca/Silk blend that my mom got. The scarf is for her. She *was* going to knit it but had trouble managing the wrap-and-turns for the short rows, so I took over. It was fun but I think it needs to rest for a bit. It's not as though she can wear it anytime soon in this heat...
Here's the fun scarf that is going oh-so-quickly. It helps that I'm using US #7 needles instead of US #3:

The pattern is called "Swing Scarf", and I've made a few alterations. It's narrower, for one, to preserve my sanity. I also am adding some rows of drop stitch instead of the lace insert in a few cases just for the heck of it. The yarn is really fun - although it took me awhile to get used to knitting with it. The reason why it knits up that way is because it changes widths like this:

I think it gives it kind of a "shabby chic" look. Anyway, this scarf is a Christmas present for my sister. I know it's only May, but I'm trying to get an early start.
Sometime I'll get around to photographing the amigurumi dog I knit for my nephew.
