I did it!! My very first pair of socks! That actually fit! (I am not counting the crochet ones that are like humongous mukluks I wear around the house.)
Very nice indeed! And toe up, too, which is daring for a 'beginner' sock knitter! I do like that lace pattern.
Though you'll find that kitchener stitch is not really daunting, particularly on plain stocking stitch/stockinette. I've got it memorised now (it only took me a year...) - your sewing needle with yarn tail goes "Knit front - off, purl front; purl back - off, knit back", repeat till the last two stitches, which go 'knit front - off, purl back - off'.
The very first pair I made -- that *didn't* fit, let me be clear -- I did top-down. It's way too short and keeps sliding off, and I couldn't see the stitches in the gusset to pick up, the variegated yarn kept messing with my eyesight. The Kitchner at the end I only accomplished after the fourth attempt at it, with the YouTube video in front of me, stitching at the same time as the lady on the screen.
I think, in the end, I wanted to try another way so that I could get a comparison. Honestly, I'm starting to prefer toe-up!
