A quandary

On my recent visit to the yarn shop, I found this wonderful thing:



It looks like spun metal and feels like petting a bunny. I don't think I have ever seen a yarn that really looks like twisted wire and feels so soft! It's 67% merino, 33% nylon. Naturally I could not resist and bought a couple of balls—a bit more than a hundred yards each. And now, I have to decide what to knit with it.

I'm basically making scarves (and possibly also hats) for Christmas, and exploring a few fun and funky patterns along the way, but I'd like to figure out how to make the best and prettiest use of this yarn. Does anyone have any suggestions for a pattern that would show off the metallic-ness of it? I had a look on Ravelry but couldn't find the yarn at all, possibly it is very new.

Any ideas?

That's really cool! I am wondering if you could do something slightly Steampunk with it to show of the metallic-ness? But I don't know what that is. So I will look, because patterns are fun...

OK, I had a go at this:

Scarves:

Kick Ass-Cot
Spoke Motif Shawl (I know it calls for *way* more yarn and is huge, but it strikes me that you could just make it smaller and have it be a scarf...it is crochet but I seem to remember that you crochet you may or may not crochet

Hats:

Fern Glade
Arrow

Gloves: (because these looked really cool and I think it would look good in them, although I'm not sure if it's the right weight for each so you'd have to check):

Some of these are fabulous! I do like the spoke motif shawl, but alas, I do not crochet. At least, I'm in love with knitting for the moment. The hats are both rather appealing, and I had been pondering perhaps attempting gloves—or at least, mittens, so I shall take a closer look at those!

Thanks for the ideas. I do like the Steampunk notion, and will bear that in mind too.

There's a Steampunk cog-shaped shawl that would look fabulous in a metallic yarn: Industrial Revolution. It calls for 440 yards, though, so you'd probably need 2-3 more skeins.

I've made this shawl, and it's fairly easy, especially if you've had previous experience in knitting lace patterns.

That looks rather fabulous, though I shall have to examine my soul carefully to see whether I have the stamina for a lace shawl! Thanks for the suggestion.
